Litty Mathew
Freelance Writer...Will Work for Food
Litty Mathew was born thinking of food. From her birth in
Addis Ababa's Empress Zawditu Memorial Hospital where she awoke to her mom's
growling stomach to her requisite stint at Cordon Bleu, Paris, cuisine has played a central role.
Her first trip to France was more than a decade ago as a
student in Lyon, the gastronomical center of France. There, she lived for a year
and a half sampling various bouchons Lyonnais, drinking lusty local wines and
of course, studying. This traditional French experience coupled with her South
Indian heritage, has led her to think globally about culture and food.
While she never became a chef, her lifelong experience with
cuisine has colored her writing--even when she writes on other topics. She speaks fluent French and Malayalam and has
lived in five countries around the globe and a couple existing only in her
imagination.
Mathew attended the University of California, Riverside and
completed graduate studies in journalism at the University of Southern
California. She writes for publications like Saveur, Travel & Leisure, the Los
Angeles Times and Marie Claire Italia. She's also the keeper of her family's Kerala cooking
secrets.
